Fathom makes a new kind of printed embellishment, one that (incredibly) adds motion and depth effects to regular product packaging labels with regular inks. It's comparable to lenticular or holograms, but isn't exactly either. Like any new technology, Fathom Effects would benefit from materials that educate and inspire the intended user (in this case, graphic designers) to get the most out of it.

I wanted to show some designs that match Fathom’s standard effects with inspirational graphic elements and colors, and the techniques used to create these—something between a swatch and a lookbook. Because this is a printing technology, a good format would work in both printed and digital forms.

The result is a design recipe. Here I explore one initial recipe. Next step is to produce a series of recipes based on this template, to inspire and inform designers for their own printed motion work.
